1. Tell us about your business – what do you make and sell?

We are DevilDog Sauces, a small batch chilli sauce and seasonings creators based in Salford. 

How did you get started?

DevilDogs was born out of a love of chilli, not so much for the heat, although that is a big part of it. It’s a love of the incredible flavour this magical fruit brings to our sauces and the available variety. We aim to bring chilli to a wider audience, to create sauces that compliment your food. We want people to enjoy not endure our sauces. It all started back in my former life as a chef, while creating a pop-up in London, one of my dishes required a hot sauce so this sent me down a rabbit hole of researching the varieties of chillies, how different cultures used them in the cookery and what sauces were out there on the market.  During all this research my tolerance grew rapidly but I was disappointed that the more heat the less flavour sauces I tried had. So I made it my mission to create the tastiest chilli sauces out there.

 3. What does the GoodMarket mean to you and your business?

We are still relatively new to Good market but we have quickly become big fans. We love the diversity of the people that come to these markets and love to chat with fellow foodies about all things flavour. Also, their aim to have as many varied stalls on offer as possible is a big draw. 

 4. What is the importance of shopping local and supporting small businesses?  

Supporting small businesses is vital to local communities. Money spent with these businesses benefits the community you live in and not going into faceless billionaires’ offshore accounts or paying to shoot them into space.  Also in our case, you are getting a product directly from the producer. You hear the story, you see the love and you become part of that business’s journey.

5. What would you say to someone thinking of coming down to GoodMarket XL?

What a way to spend your day! Tasting, smelling, and buying products that are created with love and passion. You don’t go home with a mindless generic purchase, you are taking home a part of that producer’s soul and it’s given with love.
